Google Shopping Is Coming to Serbia — What We Know, What It Costs and How to Prepare

Google is expanding Shopping ads to Serbia. What it means for your store, what it costs, what Merchant Center is and why merchants who prepare before launch gain the most.

Google Shopping Is Coming to Serbia — What We Know, What It Costs and How to Prepare

For years Serbian merchants asked the same question on forums: "Why can't I show my products on Google like stores in Germany do?" The answer was always the same — Shopping ads were not available in Serbia. That is now changing: in March 2026 Google began expanding Shopping ads to 15 new European markets, and Serbia is included in the second rollout phase, alongside Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia, with full launch expected in late 2026.

What is Google Shopping anyway?

When a shopper types "running shoes" into Google, a row of products appears above the regular results with an image, price and store name. Those are Shopping ads. Unlike classic text ads, you don't bid on keywords — Google decides when to show your product based on the data you supply through a product feed.

That is both the biggest advantage and the biggest trap: you can't polish the campaign with clever ad copy. The quality of your feed — titles, descriptions, images, GTIN codes, prices, stock — directly determines how often you appear and how much you pay per click.

What is Google Merchant Center and is it free?

Merchant Center is a free Google tool where you upload your product data. From there, products can appear in two ways: through free listings (Google shows your products in the Shopping tab at no charge) and through paid Shopping campaigns run from a Google Ads account linked to Merchant Center.

You can open an account today — and that is exactly the point of this article. Opening the account, verifying the site and cleaning up the feed take weeks. Merchants who finish before launch will enter the auction on day one, while competitors are still reading the manuals.

How much does Google Shopping advertising cost?

There is no price list — you pay per click (CPC), and the auction sets the price. From markets that walked the same path (Croatia got Shopping earlier), it is realistic to expect:

  • Low click prices at the start — few advertisers means a cheap auction. The first 6–12 months are the golden period.
  • A test budget of €5–10 per day is quite enough to see first results and learn what sells.
  • Gradual price growth as big players enter — early entrants have account history and quality data, so they pay less than newcomers.

Why the feed is decisive (and what most get wrong)

Merchant Center has strict rules and automatically rejects products that don't meet them: titles without a brand or key attribute, images with watermarks or promo text, site prices that don't match feed prices, missing GTIN/EAN codes. In markets that launched earlier, the most common scenario is identical: a merchant opens an account, uploads a feed straight from the platform, and half the catalog gets rejected — then weeks go into fixes. We covered what a feed should look like inside in the anatomy of a perfect feed.

The feed is not a technical formality. The feed is your storefront on Google — and the only "copywriting" Shopping ads have.

How to prepare right now — 5 steps

1) Open a Merchant Center account and verify your site. 2) Sort out GTIN/EAN codes — mandatory for branded products, and collecting them is the slowest part of the job (details in our GTIN and brand guide). 3) Review titles and images: a title should contain the brand, product type and key attribute (color, size, model). 4) Sync prices and stock — automatic synchronization from the platform, not manual Excel. 5) Speed up your site — Shopping brings mobile shoppers, and a slow product page turns paid clicks into bounces.

Free feed audit before launch

Send us your store link and within 48h you get a report: what Merchant Center would reject, what's missing in your data and how ready you are for day one of Shopping ads in Serbia.

The bottom line

Google Shopping in Serbia is not a question of "if" but "when" — and the biggest winners are merchants who greet the launch with a clean feed and an active Merchant Center account. On markets like this, the day-one advantage is measured in months of cheaper clicks. Preparation costs little; waiting costs position.
